THE 1000 MOTHERS MARCH FOR JUSTICE

THE 1000 MOTHERS MARCH FOR JUSTICE

SATURDAY 13TH  APRIL – ASSEMBLE 11 am

TOTTENHAM TOWN HALL N15 4RY

MARCH UP TOTTENHAM HIGH ROAD TO NORTHUMBERLAND PARK SCHOOL  FOR A PUBLIC SPEAK OUT.

NEAREST TUBE – SEVEN SISTERS. Tottenham Town Hall. Stop code: 52921. Bus Stop P. Serving routes: 149, 243, 259, 279, 318, 341, 349, 476.

The march is a heartfelt demonstration against the coalition’s deeply unfair deficit reduction policies. We aim to gain support for the campaign against those policies and for fairer policies. It is the mothers who are hurt most by cuts, caps and council tax  imposed by the coalition on the benefit system.

Mothers are at the heart of the campaign because they carry a double burden, for themselves and for their children, of the financial hardship imposed by the coalition . I have learnt from over 20 years of helping people with their utility debts, council tax and rent arrears that it is the mothers claiming benefits who face the daily stress of feeding their children or keeping them warm, paying the rent or paying for a bus trip, coping with the council tax bailiffs fees or paying for a school trip, or being evicted as the caps, cuts, council tax and rising prices and rents take their toll of already inadequate benefits, or coping with debts to doorstep lenders and visiting food banks.

We are also campaigning for affordable housing, rent controls, a living wage, adequate benefits related to the increasing prices of food, fuel, clothes, transport and other necessities, recognition of motherhood and caring as work, full rights and benefits for disabled people.

The march is supported by the Haringey Trades Council, Unison, the local Anglican, Methodist, Roman Catholic and United Reformed Churches, Single Mothers Self-Defence, WinVisible (women with visible and invisible disabilities) and other North London organisations.

We also plan to keep up the campaign for affordable housing, rent controls, the living wage, benefits linked to prices, and justice for disabled people after the 1000 MOTHERS MARCH FOR JUSTICE on 13th April.

We will be joined by a Samba Band on the march. If anyone knows any other bands who could join us please ask them to do that.

I am attaching the Post Cards and the Flyers we are distributing.
